We all know that planning a wedding can stress out a couple quickly. Add your regular day job, children, nosey family members, and moving ... Well, you could be about ready to pull your hair out, right? There is a simple solution to keeping your sanity. Simply take a "time-out".
Here's how it works. First, you will need some supplies. A cork board or a dry erase board will work great. Pins, tacks, dry erase markers, eraser, paper ... getting the idea? Now take these supplies and put them in a common area of your home. This could be the kitchen, sewing room, or office. A place dedicated to your wedding would be great!
The cork board or dry erase board will help you to stay focused and organized. You will post your "to-do" list here. This is also great for remembering appointments during the week. Anytime you have an idea, or something comes to mind, go to this board and put it on your list.
To make this work correctly, you need to dedicate ONE day EVERY week to work on your wedding. This is a rule that you cannot break. If you break the rule, your sanity will also break!
- Get up early! Take a shower and have a good breakfast.
- Organize your activities.
- Do internet research or internet shopping first. Businesses won't open at 5:00am, and nobody will answer their phones until about 9:00am.
- Be prompt about appointments. Don't schedule yourself too tight that you get behind early in the day and can't catch-up.
- Be ready to make decisions. Explaining your vision and dream for your wedding will help the business see your goals. This makes planning simple.
OK, so the day is over. Have you finished your list? If so, GREAT! If not, simply rewrite the items you didn't complete, and move them to the top of the list for NEXT WEEK. You now have six days to continue with your normal everyday walk of life. When the following week comes around, you'll be ready to repeat the process, and you might even look forward to your wedding planning. Before you know it, everything will be finished, the time will have flown by, and your wedding day will be quite near.
Lastly ... relax and enjoy your wedding day with your family and friends. If you've hired the right vendors, they will do their job and keep your day flowing smoothly. Congratulations and best wishes!
